Security Forces have successfully thwarted a major attack attempt in Bannu, exposing a Khawarij network involved in planning and executing acts of violence in Pakistan. During the operation, the facilitator of a suicide attacker was apprehended, while an explosives-laden vehicle targeting the Miryan Police Station was destroyed before it could reach its intended target.
According to security sources, the Khawarij attempted to carry out a major attack using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). However, the alertness, vigilance, and timely response of the Security Forces enabled them to identify and neutralize the explosive-laden vehicle before it could cause significant damage or casualties.
During the follow-up operation, Security Forces successfully arrested the facilitator involved in assisting the suicide attacker. The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Rehman son of Gul Muhammad, who was allegedly providing support to the suicide mission and facilitating the movement and execution of the attack plan.
Initial investigations have revealed that the suicide attacker, identified as Rehmatullah, was reportedly associated with a cross-border Khawarij network. According to security sources, the attacker belonged to Paktika, an area under the influence of the Afghan Taliban, where he was allegedly provided militant training at a designated training facility.
Further investigations indicate that the network was operating through safe havens located across the border and was involved in planning and facilitating attacks inside Pakistan. The exposure of this network represents a significant operational success in disrupting the infrastructure supporting Khawarij activities.
Security officials have emphasized that the use of foreign-based sanctuaries and support networks to orchestrate violence inside Pakistan remains a serious security concern. The state institutions and Security Forces remain fully determined to dismantle such networks, eliminate their facilitators, and prevent any attempt to threaten the lives of innocent citizens.
The successful operation in Bannu reflects the professionalism, intelligence capabilities, and operational readiness of Pakistan’s Security Forces. Their swift action not only prevented a major attack but also disrupted a wider network involved in planning hostile activities.
