In a troubling escalation of militant activity in Balochistan, armed assailants identified as members of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) reportedly intercepted and attacked a convoy of mineral transport trucks along the Quetta–Taftan Highway (N40), abducting four drivers after halting the vehicles near Ahmedwal.
According to initial reports and local sources, the militants forcibly stopped multiple trucks transporting minerals through the strategic highway corridor connecting Quetta to Taftan. During the attack, the assailants punctured the tires of several vehicles, temporarily immobilizing the convoy and creating panic among drivers and transport workers present at the scene.
The attackers subsequently kidnapped four drivers before fleeing the area. Sources confirmed that the abducted individuals belong to the districts of Rahim Yar Khan and Pakpattan in Punjab province. Their identities have not yet been officially disclosed pending notification of their families and ongoing security procedures.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies launched a search and recovery operation shortly after the incident was reported. Checkpoints along adjoining routes were placed on high alert, while intelligence-based efforts are underway to trace the movement of the abductors and ensure the safe recovery of the kidnapped drivers.
Officials familiar with the situation described the attack as part of a broader pattern of attempts by militant groups to disrupt economic activity, intimidate transport operators, and target inter-provincial movement connected to trade and mineral extraction projects in Balochistan.
The Quetta–Taftan Highway, a vital trade and transit route, has witnessed sporadic security incidents in recent years due to militant activity in remote areas. Analysts warn that attacks targeting civilian transporters and logistics networks not only threaten public safety but also risk undermining commercial confidence and regional connectivity.
Authorities strongly condemned the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding transport routes, protecting civilian workers, and countering all forms of terrorism and armed militancy in the province. Security officials stated that every available resource is being utilized to recover the abducted individuals and bring those responsible to justice.
The incident has once again highlighted the security challenges faced by transport workers operating across sensitive regions, particularly those involved in industrial and mineral supply chains that are increasingly becoming targets of militant intimidation tactics.
