The Truth Behind the Viral Khawarij Video: No FC Post Was Captured

Security sources have categorically rejected propaganda circulated by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), stating that the group’s recent video claiming the capture of a Frontier Corps (FC) post in Hangu is entirely false, misleading, and part of a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at creating a distorted perception of operational success.

According to security sources, the FC post located at Nawi Dhand had already been officially vacated and decommissioned on 9 July 2026 as part of routine operational adjustments. At the time of its closure, the post was occupied by Platoon 6, Platoon 467, and Platoon 302, all of which had been withdrawn in accordance with operational planning.

Sources further revealed that on 11 July 2026, Khawarij commanders identified as Ghazi and Malang, accompanied by a group of armed associates, arrived at the abandoned post. Finding the facility unoccupied, they forcibly broke the locks, entered the premises, and recorded a propaganda video falsely portraying the location as having been captured during an armed assault.

Security officials emphasized that no engagement, confrontation, or operational takeover occurred at the site. The post had already been vacated two days before the Khawarij entered the premises. The subsequent video was therefore nothing more than a staged propaganda exercise intended to mislead the public, exaggerate the group’s capabilities, and boost morale among its followers.

On 12 July 2026, Police teams from Hangu Saddar Police Station and Thall Police Station conducted a comprehensive search operation in the area. During the operation, law enforcement personnel entered the Nawi Dhand FC post as part of routine security clearance and verification measures. The operation confirmed the absence of any Khawarij presence or occupation at the location.

Security sources noted that extremist organizations increasingly rely on manipulated media content and fabricated narratives to compensate for operational setbacks on the ground. By producing carefully staged videos at abandoned or previously vacated locations, these groups attempt to create an illusion of battlefield success, influence public perception, and attract support through misinformation.

Authorities urged the public and media organizations to exercise caution when sharing or reporting material released by proscribed organizations. Verification through official sources remains essential to prevent the spread of false information that serves the propaganda objectives of extremist groups.

Pakistan’s security forces remain fully vigilant and continue intelligence-based operations across the region to deny Khawarij any opportunity to regroup or exploit information spaces for psychological warfare. Alongside kinetic operations, efforts to counter disinformation and expose fabricated narratives remain an integral component of the country’s broader counterterrorism strategy.

Security officials reaffirmed that attempts by Khawarij to manipulate public opinion through staged videos and false claims will not diminish the determination of Pakistan’s security institutions to protect the nation, maintain public confidence, and ensure that facts prevail over propaganda.
