At least nine civilians, including women and children, were martyred and 12 others injured in six separate incidents of cross-border shelling in the Mamund and Salarzai areas of Bajaur district during March and April 2026, according to official sources.

Officials said the shelling, reportedly originating from across the border, targeted civilian-populated areas in Laghri Mamund and Taree Shah Salarzai, causing widespread destruction and panic among local residents.

Among the dead were three women and six children, while the injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities for initial treatment before being referred to Peshawar for further care, sources said.

The shelling also caused significant material damage, with 18 houses completely destroyed in the affected areas, leaving several families displaced.

Local administration officials said emergency response measures were immediately launched after the incidents, and security forces moved quickly to bring the situation under control.

Relief assistance has been provided to the affected families, while compensation procedures for the families of the deceased and injured are underway, according to officials.

Authorities added that the situation in the border areas remains under close observation, with efforts continuing to ensure the safety and protection of civilians in vulnerable regions.
