Security forces eliminated two terrorists belonging to the banned Lashkar-e-Islam outfit during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Bhutan Sharif area of Tirah Valley, Khyber District, according to local sources.
The operation was launched after security agencies received credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists linked to the banned organization in the area. During the operation, Security Forces surrounded the hideout of Lashkar-e-Islam commander Shaheen, leading to an intense exchange of fire with the terrorists.
Sources said two Lashkar-e-Islam terrorists were eliminated during the firefight. The identities of the eliminated terrorists have yet to be officially confirmed, while efforts are underway to determine whether other members of the network managed to flee the area.
During the operation, the residence of commander Shaheen, allegedly being used as a terrorist hideout and operational base, was demolished to prevent it from being reused for terrorist activities. Security personnel also carried out a thorough search of the surrounding area to ensure no other terrorists remained concealed.
Although no official statement has yet been issued regarding recoveries, sources indicated that weapons, ammunition and communication equipment are likely to have been seized from the hideout as part of the operation. A clearance operation continued in the vicinity to eliminate any remaining threat and to facilitate the collection of forensic evidence.
The Tirah Valley has long remained a focus of counterterrorism operations due to attempts by various terrorist groups to establish hideouts in its difficult mountainous terrain. In recent months, Security Forces have intensified intelligence-based operations across Khyber District to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, disrupt movement routes and deny extremist groups the ability to regroup.
The latest operation is being viewed as another significant setback for the banned Lashkar-e-Islam network, as security forces continue sustained efforts to eliminate terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and stability across the region.
