At least five civilians, including four children and a woman, were injured after a mortar shell fired from Afghanistan landed on a residential house in the Angoor Adda border area of South Waziristan, local sources said.

According to reports, the mortar shell struck the homes of local residents Karim Khan and Rehmatullah, causing injuries to five members of the civilian population.

The injured included four children, aged 13, 10, 8 and 3, along with a woman. All the wounded were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for medical treatment.

Sources said this is not the first such incident in the area. A few days earlier, three civilians were also injured in what was described as unprovoked firing from across the Afghan border in the same region.

Security sources said Afghan Taliban and affiliated Khwarij elements have repeatedly targeted civilian populations in pursuit of their hostile objectives.

Following the attack, Pakistan Army responded by targeting the posts from where the mortar shell was allegedly fired, using both light and heavy weapons.

According to sources, the retaliatory action forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their positions and flee.

The latest incident is expected to further raise tensions along the already volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where cross-border firing and security incidents have increased in recent days.
