Pakistan has played an important mediating role in facilitating diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which described the recent 21-hour negotiation process as “constructive” and reflective of ongoing efforts to promote regional stability.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Islamabad’s diplomatic facilitation was carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who actively engaged with international counterparts ahead of the talks. He noted that Pakistan’s role in enabling dialogue between the two countries has been widely acknowledged in diplomatic circles.
According to the spokesperson, senior Pakistani leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and relevant diplomatic teams, remained actively engaged throughout the process to ensure the continuity and success of negotiations. He added that both delegations held meetings with Pakistani officials during the course of the dialogue.
The Foreign Office stated that the Iran–US engagement, which extended over approximately 21 hours of formal discussions and nearly 30 hours of overall process duration, resulted in what was described as a constructive exchange. Pakistani officials emphasized that these efforts contributed to broader de-escalation dynamics in the region.
Andrabi further said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conducted outreach to multiple world leaders prior to the negotiations, reinforcing Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to support regional peace initiatives. He noted that the Prime Minister and senior leadership received follow-up communication from various international counterparts appreciating Pakistan’s facilitation role.
The spokesperson highlighted that Pakistan’s diplomatic and strategic engagement is part of a consistent policy framework aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting dialogue-based conflict resolution. He added that senior military leadership also undertook engagements, including visits and consultations, as part of ongoing coordination efforts to support regional stability.
Reiterating Pakistan’s position, the Foreign Office condemned Israeli military actions in Lebanon and expressed concern over escalating regional tensions. It emphasized that Pakistan continues to advocate for principled diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful settlement of disputes as the only viable path forward.
The statement further underscored that Pakistan remains committed to maintaining open channels of communication with all relevant stakeholders, aiming to facilitate de-escalation, strengthen regional cooperation, and promote long-term peace and stability.
Officials concluded that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive and responsible role in international diplomacy, with sustained efforts to encourage dialogue, cooperation, and coordinated responses to complex geopolitical challenges.
