In a significant demonstration of public commitment to peace and rejection of extremism, a resident of Bannu, accompanied by his brothers, appeared before the local Police Peace Committee and formally declared his family’s complete disassociation from terrorism, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement and community peace initiatives.
The citizen, Noor Rahman, addressed members of the Peace Committee and local elders, clarifying concerns that had arisen regarding two of his brothers, who were suspected of maintaining links with terrorist elements and facilitating extremist activities. Following detailed scrutiny, investigation, and explanation before the committee, both individuals were found to have no involvement in terrorist activities.
During the proceedings, Noor Rahman openly acknowledged that another brother, identified as Sohail, is associated with Fitna Al-Khawarij and has allegedly been involved in terrorist activities. However, he categorically stated that neither he nor any other member of the family has any connection, affiliation, or sympathy with Sohail’s actions or extremist networks.
In a powerful and symbolic gesture underscoring the family’s commitment to peace, Noor Rahman solemnly swore on the Holy Quran that his family rejects terrorism in all its forms and remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at maintaining law and order in the region.
He further pledged that if Sohail were ever to contact the family or attempt to return home, they would immediately inform the Peace Committee and relevant security institutions, ensuring that he is handed over to the authorities without delay.
Noor Rahman emphasized that his statements were made voluntarily, without fear, coercion, or external pressure, and reaffirmed his determination to remain steadfast in his commitment before God, his community, and the state.
The declaration was welcomed by local elders and members of the Peace Committee, who described the family’s stance as a positive example of civic responsibility and public cooperation in the fight against terrorism. They noted that community participation remains a critical pillar in efforts to eliminate extremist influence and strengthen peace across the region.
Community leaders stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved when citizens actively support law enforcement institutions, reject extremist ideologies, and stand united against individuals or groups seeking to undermine security and social harmony.
The event also highlighted the growing role of local peace committees in fostering trust between communities and state institutions, providing a platform for dialogue, transparency, and collective action against security threats.
Observers described the family’s public declaration as an encouraging sign of community resilience and a reminder that the overwhelming majority of citizens reject violence and remain committed to safeguarding peace, stability, and the rule of law.
As security forces and local stakeholders continue their efforts to counter terrorism and extremism, such acts of public accountability and cooperation are viewed as essential contributions toward building a safer and more secure future for the people of Bannu and the wider region.
