How the Karachi Rangers Camp Attack Began in Afghanistan and Ended with the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar Network Exposed

A comprehensive investigation into the attack on the Rangers camp in Karachi has revealed the alleged operational network behind the incident, with law enforcement authorities tracing the trail from alleged training facilities across the border to local facilitators operating within the city.

According to police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, the investigation uncovered a coordinated plot involving trained attackers, local support networks, and logistical facilitators who allegedly worked together to target a security installation in Karachi. Authorities stated that swift action by security personnel prevented a larger tragedy and led to the dismantling of the network involved.

According to investigators, the attackers were allegedly recruited and trained by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in Afghanistan before being sent across the border to carry out an attack in Pakistan. Officials stated that the attackers received specialized training, including the preparation and handling of explosive devices, operational planning, and methods for targeting security installations.

Investigators further claimed that after completing their training, the attackers entered Pakistan and travelled through Balochistan before reaching Karachi. According to officials, a local facilitator arranged their transportation, accommodation, and logistical support in the Korangi area of the city.

Authorities identified the alleged facilitator as Muhammad Bashir alias Qari Bashir, who investigators claim played a key role in providing shelter, resources, and coordination support to the attackers. According to police officials, on 27 June 2026, an attacker approached the main entrance of the Rangers camp in Karachi. A powerful explosion occurred, creating chaos and allowing other attackers to attempt entry into the facility.

Security personnel immediately responded, took defensive positions, and engaged the attackers. Officials stated that the assault was successfully contained following an intense exchange of fire.

According to investigators, one attacker was captured alive in an injured condition, while others were neutralized during the operation. The swift response of security forces prevented further damage and protected the facility and surrounding population.

Officials stated that during interrogation, the captured attacker provided investigators with information regarding the alleged planning, movement, and support structure behind the attack. According to CTD officials, the investigation later led to raids against suspected hideouts and the recovery of digital evidence, including mobile phones and laptops containing material allegedly connected to the planning and execution of the attack.

Authorities claimed that recovered videos provided further insight into the preparation phase of the operation, including alleged training activities and final checks before the attackers moved towards their target.

Investigators stated that the attack was not carried out by isolated individuals but was allegedly supported by an organized facilitation network operating in Karachi and other locations. According to officials, further investigation under the supervision of senior CTD leadership led to the identification and arrest of multiple alleged facilitators involved in providing accommodation, transportation, logistics, and other forms of support.

Authorities also claimed that individuals allegedly involved in cross-border weapons movement were identified during the investigation and taken into custody.

During a media briefing, Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar and Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho highlighted the progress made in the investigation and emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting Karachi’s peace and security.

Officials stated that the attack was an attempt to disrupt stability in the city and undermine public confidence. They reiterated that security agencies would continue pursuing all individuals involved in planning, facilitating, or executing terrorist activities.

Authorities further stated that investigations into possible external links and support structures remain ongoing, while legal proceedings against arrested suspects will continue according to law.

Law enforcement agencies have emphasized that maintaining peace in Karachi remains a priority and that security operations against terrorist networks, their facilitators, and support structures will continue. The successful response to the attack and subsequent investigation demonstrate the operational readiness of Pakistan’s security institutions and their determination to prevent terrorist organizations from establishing footholds in urban areas.

Security officials reaffirmed that any attempt to threaten public safety, target security installations, or disrupt peace will be met with a decisive response.
