Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the reported conclusion of a landmark understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the development as a significant diplomatic breakthrough with the potential to usher in a new era of peace, stability, and constructive engagement across the Middle East.
The Prime Minister noted that the reported agreement, expected to be formally signed during an official ceremony in Switzerland later this week, represents an important step toward de-escalation following months of heightened tensions, military confrontation, and growing concerns regarding regional and international security.
According to publicly available information, the understanding envisages an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, while creating a framework for continued diplomatic engagement on outstanding issues. The reported arrangement is also expected to facilitate technical discussions and confidence-building measures aimed at achieving a broader and more comprehensive settlement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the leadership of both the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for demonstrating statesmanship, strategic foresight, and commitment to dialogue at a critical juncture.
“Peace is always achieved through courage, vision, and diplomacy. The reported understanding between the United States and Iran demonstrates that even the most challenging disputes can be addressed through meaningful engagement and sustained dialogue,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s appreciation to all countries that contributed to the mediation process and diplomatic efforts that helped create conditions conducive to constructive negotiations.
In particular, he acknowledged the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar in facilitating communication and advancing mediation efforts between the parties. He also extended appreciation to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Türkiye for their valuable diplomatic engagement and contributions toward regional stability.
The Prime Minister noted that mediators are expected to facilitate a series of consultations and technical meetings during the coming days to prepare for the implementation phase and formal signing process. These discussions are anticipated to establish mechanisms for monitoring commitments, addressing technical issues, and advancing negotiations on remaining matters.
The reported agreement has generated optimism across the international community due to its potential impact on regional security, global energy markets, maritime trade routes, and economic stability. Observers believe that the reduction of tensions could contribute significantly to restoring confidence in regional security arrangements and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international commerce.
Pakistan has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and peaceful conflict resolution as the most effective means of resolving international disputes. Throughout the recent crisis, Pakistan maintained close engagement with regional and international partners and supported all efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging meaningful negotiations.
The Government of Pakistan welcomes reports indicating progress toward a peaceful resolution and remains hopeful that the positive momentum generated by the understanding will contribute to a broader process of reconciliation, confidence-building, and long-term regional stability.
The Prime Minister also welcomed encouraging statements from regional and international leaders supporting diplomatic engagement and peaceful settlement of disputes. He noted that broad international support for dialogue reflects a shared recognition that lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiation rather than confrontation.
Pakistan remains committed to supporting all initiatives that promote peace, security, economic prosperity, and regional cooperation. The Government hopes that the forthcoming discussions and formal signing process will pave the way for a durable framework capable of addressing outstanding issues and preventing future conflict.
As the international community looks toward the implementation phase of the agreement, Pakistan reiterates its support for all efforts aimed at advancing regional peace, fostering mutual understanding, and building a more secure and prosperous future for the peoples of the region.
