Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted an attempted suicide vehicle attack targeting a military post near Miranshah in North Waziristan, according to security sources familiar with the operation.
Officials stated that Khawarij elements attempted to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into the security installation. However, security personnel, who were reportedly on heightened alert due to ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region, detected the threat in time and engaged the vehicle before it could reach its intended target.
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was destroyed before reaching the military post, preventing what authorities believe could have been a major attack. No casualties among security personnel were immediately reported.
Following the failed assault, security forces launched a follow-up operation in the surrounding area. Security sources said four Khawarij were killed during the subsequent engagement. Clearance and search operations remain underway as forces continue efforts to identify and apprehend any individuals allegedly linked to the attack.
Officials noted that the attempted assault comes amid an intensified counterterrorism campaign across North Waziristan, particularly in and around Miranshah, where security forces have conducted a series of intelligence-based operations in recent weeks.
According to security sources, more than 20 Khawarij have been killed during ongoing operations in the Miranshah region over the past several days. Authorities believe sustained pressure from these operations may have disrupted hostile networks and contributed to attempts to carry out retaliatory attacks against security installations.
Military and law-enforcement agencies have maintained an elevated security posture across the district, citing continued threats from extremist elements operating in remote areas along the border region. Officials emphasized that operations are continuing and that all individuals involved in planning, facilitating, or supporting attacks against state institutions will be pursued and brought to justice.
Security analysts note that North Waziristan remains a strategically important area in Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism efforts due to its historical significance as a former militant stronghold and its proximity to the Afghanistan border.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to ongoing counterterrorism operations, stating that efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt facilitation structures, and protect civilian and military targets will continue without interruption.
