Security Forces Recover Soviet-Made Grenade Launchers After Destroying Taliban Posts in Zhob Sector

Pakistan, Afghan Taliban, Zhob Operation

Pakistani security forces have recovered heavy weapons allegedly belonging to Afghan Taliban after destroying two militant posts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Zhob sector of Balochistan, security sources said.

According to officials, the operation was carried out after surveillance teams detected suspicious activity near the frontier, prompting Pakistani forces to target the positions identified as “Post-2” and “Post-3”. The posts were subsequently neutralized during a security action aimed at preventing cross-border militant activity.

Sources said that during monitoring of the area, security personnel observed individuals fleeing the positions shortly before or during the operation. After the militants abandoned the posts, Pakistani forces moved in and conducted a covert search of the area.

During the sweep, security personnel recovered heavy weapons left behind at the site. Officials said the weapons included Soviet-manufactured heavy grenade launchers believed to have been in the possession of Afghan Taliban elements operating close to the border.

One of the recovered launchers was found in a damaged condition, while the second weapon was intact and fully functional, according to security officials familiar with the operation.

Authorities said the recovery of such weapons underscores concerns over the presence of armed militant infrastructure near the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier. The Zhob sector has witnessed intermittent security alerts in recent months amid fears of militant movement and cross-border infiltration attempts.

Security officials noted that the latest operation was part of ongoing efforts to secure the western border and prevent militant groups from establishing operational footholds along sensitive frontier regions.

The recovered weapons have been taken into custody for forensic examination and intelligence assessment, officials said, adding that further operations could follow if additional militant infrastructure is detected in the area.
