What Was Hidden Behind the Rangers Camp Attack? How Was the Plot Planned?

Significant developments have emerged following the interrogation of an injured Khawarij attacker captured after the attack on the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp in Karachi. During the investigation, the captured individual has reportedly disclosed important details regarding the planning, facilitation, and execution of the attack.

According to officials, the captured attacker identified himself as Usman Ali and claimed that he had entered Pakistan from Jalalabad, Afghanistan. During interrogation, he revealed details about his associates allegedly involved in the attack, naming Abdul Hadi, Janaan, and Umar Farooq as accomplices.

The captured individual stated that Abdul Hadi was killed during the operation, while claiming that Janaan carried out the grenade attack on the Rangers camp. He further alleged that the weapons used in the attack were brought from Waziristan by Abdul Hadi.

The accused further disclosed that the group entered Pakistan approximately seven days prior to the attack and was allegedly provided temporary accommodation in an under-construction building. He stated that he sustained injuries while attempting to escape and was subsequently apprehended by security personnel.

During interrogation, the captured attacker claimed affiliation with the proscribed terrorist organization Jamaat-ul-Ahrar. He further alleged that the group’s commander in Afghanistan was known as “Ahrar Molvi” and that members were provided training in the preparation of suicide jackets, handling of explosives, and other militant activities. He named an individual referred to as “Umar Qari” as the alleged trainer.

The captured individual also claimed that the planning and arrangements for the Karachi attack were made before their arrival in Pakistan and that one of the facilitators had previously entered the country. He further stated that the group initially did not distinguish between the Army and Rangers, but was later instructed to specifically target the Rangers.

The revelations during the investigation highlight the organized nature of the attack and the presence of a structured network involved in facilitating terrorist activities. Security officials continue to investigate the wider network, including facilitators, planners, and other individuals associated with the attack.

Security and defence analysts have stated that such disclosures reinforce concerns regarding the alleged use of Afghan territory by hostile elements for planning and coordinating attacks against Pakistan. They further noted that Pakistan has previously shared evidence regarding cross-border terrorism with relevant Afghan authorities.

Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to protecting citizens, dismantling terrorist networks, and ensuring that those responsible for acts of violence are brought to justice. Comprehensive investigations and intelligence-based operations will continue to identify and neutralize all elements involved in supporting terrorism.

The state of Pakistan remains resolute in its commitment to countering terrorism and safeguarding national security.
