The United Nations Secretary-General has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack targeting a train in Quetta, located in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, describing the incident as a “serious act of terrorism” and calling for those responsible to be brought to justice without delay.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the attack has resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives, prompting deep sorrow and condolences from the United Nations.
The statement expressed profound grief over the casualties and extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims, while also wishing a swift and full recovery to those injured in the explosion.
Reiterating the United Nations’ firm position on global security threats, the spokesperson emphasized that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is unacceptable under any circumstances. The statement further underscored the urgent need to identify, expose, and prosecute all individuals involved in such acts of violence in accordance with the law.
“Terrorism is unacceptable in any form or manifestation, and those involved in such attacks must be brought to justice,” the statement said.
The United Nations also reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan in the wake of the attack. The Secretary-General reiterated that the international community stands alongside Pakistan in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and promote peace and stability in the region.
The condemnation comes amid heightened concerns over security challenges in parts of Balochistan, where militant attacks have previously targeted infrastructure and civilian transport systems.
The UN leadership’s statement reflects growing international concern over the persistence of terrorist violence in the region and the need for sustained global cooperation to address the threat.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the global community must remain united in confronting terrorism and supporting nations affected by such attacks, particularly those on the frontlines of counterterrorism efforts.
The United Nations concluded by reaffirming its commitment to working with Pakistan and other member states to strengthen international peace, security, and resilience against extremist violence.
