WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump has indicated that the next round of Iran–United States talks could potentially be held in Pakistan, suggesting that “something big” may unfold in the coming days.
Speaking to members of the American media, Trump said, “Are you ready? Something may happen in the next two days,” adding that the next phase of Iran–US negotiations could take place in Pakistan and that the media should be present there.
He further remarked that the venue choice should be practical and questioned the logic of holding discussions in countries that, in his words, have no direct role in the matter.
Trump also praised Pakistan’s military leadership, stating that Field Marshal Asim Munir is performing “fantastically well,” and suggested that future diplomatic engagement could again involve Islamabad as a host location.
It is noteworthy that high-level Iran–US engagement recently took place in Islamabad after nearly 47 years, facilitated through diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, marking a rare but significant diplomatic development in regional mediation efforts.
Earlier, US Vice President J.D. Vance, who led the American delegation, had described the talks as difficult to categorize, stating that he could not call them a success or failure, but acknowledged that they represented “a major step forward.”
Iran has also reportedly expressed preference for Pakistan as a potential venue for future rounds of negotiations, reinforcing Islamabad’s emerging role as a facilitator in sensitive regional diplomatic processes.
