The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) eliminated two wanted terrorists during an intelligence-based operation near the Northern Bypass in Peshawar, officials said.
According to sources, CTD Peshawar Region received credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists linked to a banned group near the Regi area along the Northern Bypass, reportedly planning terrorist activity.
Acting on the information, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams of CTD laid a well-coordinated ambush in the area. As the terrorists approached the targeted location, they opened fire upon spotting security personnel.
CTD personnel responded promptly in self-defense, and an exchange of fire ensued, continuing for a considerable duration. After the firing ceased, the area was cordoned off, and a search operation was conducted.’
During the search, two terrorists were found eliminated. Weapons recovered from their possession included a Kalashnikov rifle, a 9mm pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition. The terrorists were identified through documents as Abbas, son of Qismat Khan, and Usman, son of Kastoor Khan, both residents of Shahi Bala.
Officials confirmed that one of the eliminated terrorists, Abbas, was involved in the martyrdom of CTD Constable Sanaullah, and the slain officer’s personal mobile phone was also recovered from his possession.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend any accomplices who managed to flee during the encounter.
Senior police officials, including the Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Additional IG CTD, commended the performance of the CTD teams, stating that such operations reflect the department’s resolve to eliminate terrorist threats.
They reiterated that terrorists will not be allowed to succeed in their designs, and that the nation stands firmly behind its security forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
