A video circulated by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna al-Khwarij, claiming the capture of a security post in North Waziristan’s Shewa area has come under scrutiny after officials and local sources disputed the group’s narrative.
The footage, widely shared through pro-terrorist social media channels, purportedly shows terrorists taking control of a security position. However, observers examining the video noted that the structure appears abandoned, with damaged walls and partially collapsed internal sections visible throughout the site.
According to security sources, the post had been vacated months earlier as part of an operational and tactical adjustment, making the terrorist group’s claim of a fresh takeover misleading. Officials said the video does not depict an active military position being overrun, contrary to the impression being promoted online.
Sources familiar with the security situation in the area said such propaganda is frequently used by terrorist groups attempting to project strength and influence despite facing sustained pressure from ongoing counterterrorism operations.
Propaganda Becomes a Weapon When Ground Space Shrinks
Security officials maintain that the overall situation in North Waziristan remains under control and that clearance and sanitization operations against terrorist networks continue across the district.
Analysts note that terrorist organizations often seek to manufacture perceptions of momentum through carefully edited videos and exaggerated claims, particularly when confronted with persistent operational setbacks. The strategy is designed to create psychological impact, attract attention on social media and maintain the appearance of relevance among supporters.
The latest claim comes as security forces continue intelligence-based operations against Fitna al-Khwarij elements in North Waziristan, where dozens of terrorists have reportedly been neutralized in recent operations. Officials say such pressure has increasingly pushed terrorist networks toward information warfare and propaganda campaigns aimed at offsetting losses on the ground.
Authorities further warned that terrorist groups continue to exploit civilian areas and attempt to use local populations as shields for their activities. They reiterated that counterterrorism operations would continue without interruption, emphasizing that misleading online narratives cannot alter realities on the ground or undermine efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
