At least six terrorists were eliminated in a follow-up search and clearance operation after their failed overnight attack on Mazanga Police Post in Bannu, police officials confirmed.

According to police officials, the terrorists had launched a coordinated assault on the police post at around 1:30 a.m. under the cover of darkness, triggering a prolonged exchange of fire that continued until dawn.

The timely and effective response by police personnel forced the attackers to retreat without breaching the security installation or achieving their objective.

During the initial search operation launched after the attack, police recovered blood traces and abandoned items believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists, including weapons, ammunition gear, a ladder and footwear, indicating casualties among the attackers.

In the latest development, police officials said a subsequent operation in the area led to the elimination of six terrorists involved in the attack.

Weapons and other equipment were also recovered during the latest search operation, while the remaining terrorists were forced to flee.

One police constable sustained minor injuries during the exchange of fire and was provided medical assistance.

Police officials praised the courage and professionalism of the personnel involved in repelling the attack and carrying out the follow-up action.

Authorities said further search and clearance operations are underway to trace any remaining terrorists or facilitators linked to the assault.
