Khawarij Attack on Mazanga Police Post in Bannu Repelled After Intense Exchange of Fire

A coordinated attack by Khawarij on the Mazanga Police Post in Bannu was successfully repelled following a sustained overnight exchange of fire, police officials confirmed. According to police sources, a large group of Khawarij launched the assault at approximately 1:30 a.m., targeting the security post under cover of darkness. Security personnel responded immediately with a swift and coordinated counter-operation, engaging the attackers in a prolonged firefight that continued until dawn.

Officials stated that the timely and effective response by police forces forced the attackers to retreat after suffering losses. The assailants were unable to breach the security installation or achieve their objectives.

Following the initial engagement, reinforcements from the Bannu Police Lines, led by District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu Yaser Afridi, arrived at the scene. Additional security forces subsequently secured the area and established full operational control.

A joint search operation was launched in the surrounding locality after the incident. During the sweep, traces of blood were recovered, indicating that the Khawarij sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. Abandoned items believed to belong to the attackers were also recovered, including weapons, ammunition gear such as bandoliers, a ladder, and footwear.

Police confirmed that one constable, identified as Fareedullah, sustained minor injuries while performing duties during the engagement. He was immediately provided with medical assistance and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the professionalism and readiness of the personnel involved, describing them as a valuable asset to the province’s security framework. He reiterated that Khawarij elements target civilians and security forces through cowardly attacks, but emphasized that such actions will be met with decisive and effective response.

DPO Bannu Yaser Afridi reaffirmed that the district police remain fully committed to eliminating Khawarij elements from the region. He stated that all hostile actions will continue to be met with a strong and immediate response, and that security forces are maintaining high alert across sensitive locations.

Authorities have launched further investigation and area clearance operations to trace any remaining individuals or support networks linked to the attack.

The situation in the area has since been brought under control.
