Eight Khawarij Killed in Hangu Engagement; Two Officers and Four Soldiers Embrace Shahadat: ISPR

On 20 September 2026, an intense exchange of fire took place between a convoy of Security Forces and Khawarij in Hangu District.

During the engagement, Security Forces effectively responded to the Khawarij attack and, through precise and determined engagement, eight Khawarij belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna-Al-Khawarij were sent to hell.

However, during the intense exchange of fire, two brave officers and four soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Captain Abuzar Farooq, aged 23 and a resident of District Gujranwala, and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, aged 22 and a resident of District Chakwal, were leading their troops from the front when they fought gallantly and embraced Shahadat, along with four of their men.

The courage and leadership displayed by the officers and soldiers during the engagement reflect the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s Security Forces to confront the Khawarij threat and protect the nation. Their sacrifice stands as a solemn reminder of the immense price paid by the country’s defenders in the fight against terrorism and foreign-sponsored violence.

Following the engagement, a sanitization operation is underway in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining Khawarij. Security Forces are maintaining heightened vigilance and conducting a systematic clearance of the area to ensure that no hostile elements are able to exploit the terrain or evade the ongoing operation.

The counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue with full resolve. Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies remain determined to dismantle the threat posed by foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism and to restore lasting peace and stability across the country.

The nation pays tribute to Captain Abuzar Farooq, Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, and their four brave soldiers, who laid down their lives while defending the country. Their supreme sacrifice embodies the highest traditions of courage, duty, and devotion to the motherland.

The sacrifices of our Shuhada further reinforce the unwavering resolve of the Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies to safeguard Pakistan and its people at all costs.

Pakistan’s fight against the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism will continue with full force and determination.
