“Peace Committee or Terror Shield?” Khawarij Suspect Arrested From Home of Aman Committee Member in Lakki Marwat

Serious concerns have emerged in Lakki Marwat following the arrest of an alleged Khawarij-linked militant facilitator reportedly connected to the family of a member of the local Police Aman Committee, raising critical questions regarding the possible infiltration and misuse of community security platforms by extremist elements.

According to credible local sources, security agencies and police conducted an intelligence-based operation in the area after receiving verified and actionable information regarding the presence of a suspected suicide bomber affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij. The operation specifically targeted the residence of the nephew of Inspector Saboor Ali, who is associated with the Police Aman Committee.

Sources confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody on the basis of substantial evidence allegedly linking him to extremist activities. Further reports suggest that another close family member, identified as the suspect’s son, is also under investigation for alleged facilitation and logistical support.

The development has reportedly triggered internal divisions within the Police Aman Committee itself, with several members questioning how an allegedly wanted extremist suspect managed to remain under the protection or proximity of individuals associated with a body publicly operating under the banner of maintaining peace and security.

In the aftermath of the operation, Village Defense Committee Chairman of Lundiwa and Karam Par, Najibullah, reportedly briefed other members of the Police Aman Committee regarding the details and background of the incident.

According to security sources, when law enforcement personnel arrived at the residence to apprehend the suspect, armed resistance was allegedly offered from the premises. Reports indicate that Inspector Saboor Ali and his associates allegedly opened intense fire in an attempt to prevent the arrest and facilitate the escape or protection of the wanted individual.

Security officials view the armed resistance during a lawful counterterrorism operation as a deeply alarming escalation, particularly given the alleged association of those involved with a committee operating under the title of “peace” and “public security.”

The incident has further intensified after the emergence of audio and video material circulating on social media. One alleged voice note attributed to Police Aman Committee President Khalid Khan reportedly contains inflammatory rhetoric, including references to confrontation, reclaiming weapons, and issuing threats toward state institutions and the Pakistan Army.

Additionally, videos attributed to Saboor Ali surfaced following the raid, in which he accused security forces of entering his residence, confiscating belongings, and detaining seven individuals during the operation.

Observers and security analysts have expressed concern over what they describe as a dangerous overlap between anti-state narratives and the operational conduct of individuals associated with local peace committees. Questions are now being raised regarding whether certain elements are exploiting the name of “Police Aman Committees” to shield militant facilitators, obstruct state operations, and conduct organized propaganda campaigns against national security institutions.

Analysts argue that if individuals associated with such committees adopt the same rhetoric, methods, and intimidation tactics commonly linked to extremist factions, then the distinction between peace platforms and militant facilitation networks becomes increasingly blurred.

The incident has also reignited broader debate over the regulation and oversight of armed community groups operating under various local security arrangements. Critics warn that no parallel structure or self-styled militia can be permitted to function beyond the authority of the state, particularly if such groups are seen threatening institutions, interfering in counterterrorism operations, or defending individuals accused of facilitating terrorism.

Security officials maintain that operations against terrorist networks and their facilitators will continue without discrimination and strictly in accordance with intelligence assessments and national security imperatives.

Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive official statement regarding the broader investigation; however, local sources indicate that further inquiries and arrests may follow as investigators examine potential links between militant networks and individuals operating under the cover of local peace committees.

The situation in Lakki Marwat continues to remain highly sensitive, with residents closely monitoring developments amid growing demands for accountability, transparency, and decisive action against all forms of militant facilitation and anti-state activity.
