Pakistan’s military has paid tribute to United Nations peacekeepers serving across the globe, praising their sacrifices and commitment to maintaining international peace on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the media wing of the Pakistan Army, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said Pakistan honors the unparalleled sacrifices and services of the “Blue Helmets” working for the sacred cause of global peace.
According to the ISPR, Pakistan has remained an active contributor to UN peacekeeping missions for more than six decades. Since 1960, over 237,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served in missions around the world, while 183 Pakistani personnel have laid down their lives in the pursuit of international peace.
The military’s spokesperson said Pakistani “Blue Helmets” are currently deployed in some of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones, including Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic, where they are conducting diverse and multidimensional operations ranging from active military engagements to tackling climate-related challenges.
The ISPR noted that modern conflict zones have become increasingly complex, unstable, and unpredictable. Today’s peacekeepers face hybrid threats, including cyber security risks, digital misinformation campaigns, political instability, and climate-driven humanitarian emergencies.
Referring to the 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace,” the spokesperson said the theme highlights a significant shift from reactive conflict management to proactive peace preservation. The statement emphasized that investing in peace in the modern era requires advancements in technology and operational infrastructure.
The spokesperson further stressed the need for investment in modern intelligence systems, stronger civilian protection mechanisms, and climate-resilient operational frameworks to ensure effective protection of vulnerable populations.
The ISPR reaffirmed that the Government of Pakistan and its armed forces remain firmly committed to the objectives and ideals of United Nations peace missions through investments in human resources, advanced training facilities, and institutional capacity building.
