Pakistan Raises Concerns Over Cross-Border Militancy in High-Level US Talks in Washington

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has conveyed Islamabad’s concerns to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the use of Afghan territory by terrorist groups against Pakistan, during a meeting held in Washington on Friday. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two leaders discussed a broad range of issues including bilateral relations, economic and trade cooperation, cultural ties, counterterrorism efforts, and regional security dynamics.

The statement said both sides acknowledged the positive trajectory of Pakistan–US relations over the past year and expressed interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Ishaq Dar also appreciated US President Donald Trump for his “vision and efforts for peace,” including his role in supporting a ceasefire between the United States and Iran and for sending a high-level delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan for peace talks in Islamabad. Marco Rubio, according to the statement, welcomed Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts and stressed the need for continued coordination between the two countries’ leaderships.

The Foreign Ministry further noted that Dar highlighted Pakistan’s concerns over militant groups operating from Afghan soil and reiterated the need for stronger counterterrorism cooperation to address regional security challenges. Both sides agreed at the conclusion of the meeting to maintain engagement and continue efforts to strengthen Pakistan–US relations going forward.
