Pakistan and Syria Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Defence and Security Cooperation

The Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, received Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, who arrived at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, accompanied by a high-level delegation. The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, the evolving regional security environment, and opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of defence and security.

During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on Pakistan-Syria relations and explored avenues for enhancing institutional linkages, defence cooperation, and security coordination between the two countries. Both sides expressed their shared desire to further consolidate the longstanding and fraternal relations between Pakistan and Syria and to translate the existing goodwill into enhanced practical cooperation.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir underscored the enduring bonds of friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Syria, describing the bilateral relationship as rooted in mutual respect, shared interests, and a longstanding tradition of close engagement. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining constructive relations with Syria and to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability, and security in the region.

The Chief of Defence Forces also apprised the visiting dignitary of Pakistan’s perspective on international peace and regional stability, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and collective efforts in addressing emerging and shared security challenges. He stressed that closer coordination and sustained engagement among regional countries remain essential for confronting common threats and contributing to a peaceful and stable regional environment.

The discussions also covered the evolving security situation in the region and the need for continued efforts to strengthen mechanisms of cooperation against common security challenges. Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding defence and security linkages through enhanced institutional engagement, professional exchanges, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani appreciated the professional contributions and role of the Pakistan Army in promoting regional peace and stability. He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Syria and its continued interest in strengthening bilateral engagement.

The Syrian Foreign Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in the defence and security domains.
