Mortar Shells Fired from Afghan Side Hit Civilian Market in South Waziristan; Civilians Injured in Angoor Adda

Ten civilians were injured after mortar shells reportedly fired from across the border landed in a civilian market area near Angoor Adda in South Waziristan’s border region on 7 May 2026, local sources and official reports confirmed.

According to initial information, three mortar rounds originating from the Afghan side of the border struck a busy commercial area near the Ghaziz Rahman Hotel and adjoining shops in the main bazaar. The sudden shelling caused panic among residents and traders, resulting in multiple injuries and damage to civilian property.

The injured were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where medical officials described the condition of several victims as critical. Emergency response teams were deployed promptly to provide medical assistance and secure the affected area.

Authorities stated that the incident represents a serious breach of international norms and conventions governing the protection of civilians, as well as a violation of cross-border conduct protocols. Officials further noted that targeting populated civilian areas constitutes a grave concern for regional peace and stability.

Security sources indicated that such incidents pose a persistent threat to border communities and undermine ongoing efforts to maintain calm along sensitive frontier regions. Investigations into the incident are underway to ascertain further details and verify the origin of the attack.

Officials emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to peace, regional stability, and constructive relations based on mutual respect. However, they reiterated that the protection of its citizens and territorial integrity remains non-negotiable.

“Pakistan does not seek confrontation or instability in the region,” officials stated, adding that the country’s policy is grounded in restraint, responsibility, and adherence to international norms. At the same time, they reaffirmed that any threat to civilian lives or border security would be addressed with full resolve.

Local authorities and security forces continue to monitor the situation closely, while relief and medical support operations remain underway in the affected area.
