Pakistan’s security forces have conducted a targeted intelligence-based operation (IBO) against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts in Kurram, killing 15 Khawarij during coordinated ground action supported by aerial capabilities, according to security sources.
The operation was launched after actionable intelligence indicated the presence of Khawarij elements in the area. Security forces moved swiftly to target the identified compounds and deny the militants an opportunity to use the area for planning or facilitating terrorist activities.
According to the information provided by security sources, 15 Khawarij were killed during the operation. The operation involved coordinated ground action with aerial support, enabling security forces to engage the targeted elements and strike their identified positions.
Sources further reported that multiple Afghan nationals were among those killed during the operation. The identities and affiliations of those killed remain subject to official confirmation. Security forces also destroyed multiple key compounds believed to have been used by the Khawarij as hideouts and operational positions. The destruction of these locations is expected to disrupt the militants’ ability to establish temporary bases, store weapons, plan attacks and facilitate movement within the area.
The operation was conducted as part of continuing efforts to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent terrorist elements from using Kurram and adjoining areas to threaten local communities or security personnel.
During the clearance operation, security forces recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the targeted locations. The recovery of the weapons and explosive material highlights the operational nature of the compounds and provides further material for ongoing security and intelligence investigations. Authorities are examining the recovered material to determine its intended use and possible links with other terrorist networks and facilitators operating in the region.
Security forces have continued clearance operations in the area following the initial engagement. The ongoing phase is aimed at ensuring that no remaining Khawarij elements, weapons caches or explosive devices remain concealed in the vicinity of the targeted compounds. Security personnel are also conducting searches of surrounding areas as part of efforts to prevent surviving militants from regrouping or escaping into nearby locations.
