A critical bridge in the Ghawakho area of Wana, Lower South Waziristan, was destroyed late last night in an explosion reportedly carried out by militants identified as Fitna Khawarij, using explosive materials to target public infrastructure.
According to local reports, the blast was of significant intensity, resulting in the complete destruction of the Ghawakho bridge. The explosion also caused collateral damage to nearby residential structures, with several houses in the vicinity sustaining varying degrees of structural impact.
Residents confirmed that the incident severely disrupted mobility in the area, leaving local communities facing serious difficulties in transportation and daily movement. The destruction of the bridge has effectively cut off a vital link used by the public for routine travel, trade, and access to essential services.
Eyewitnesses and local community members stated that such attacks on civilian infrastructure appear aimed at spreading fear, destabilizing normal life, and creating psychological pressure on local populations. They strongly condemned the targeting of public property, calling it a deliberate attempt to disrupt peace and social order in the region.
Security sources have indicated that investigations into the incident are underway, and efforts are being made to assess the full extent of the damage as well as identify those responsible for the attack.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to restoring infrastructure and ensuring the safety of civilians in the affected areas. Repair and rehabilitation work on the damaged bridge is expected to be prioritized in order to restore connectivity for the local population.
The attack highlights the continued threat posed by militant groups targeting civilian infrastructure in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising renewed concerns over regional security and the protection of public assets.
