How Many Drone Attacks Have Hit KP This Year and Why Is Bannu Under the Spotlight?

Law enforcement authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have successfully thwarted a significant number of attempted drone-based attacks so far this year, underscoring evolving security challenges and the increasing use of unmanned aerial devices in potential hostile activities.

According to official figures released by police, a total of 246 attempted drone or quadcopter attacks were recorded across the province during the current year. Of these, the highest concentration 215 incidents was reported in the Bannu region, highlighting it as the most affected area.

Additional attempted attacks were reported in multiple districts, including 15 in Dera Ismail Khan, seven in Malakand, and four in Peshawar. Authorities also confirmed two attempted incidents each in Mardan and Kohat, along with a single reported attempt in the Hazara region.

Police officials stated that all identified threats were neutralized in a timely manner through coordinated response mechanisms and the use of advanced counter-drone technologies. No casualties or property damage have been reported in connection with these incidents.

Security experts note that the increasing reliance on drones in attempted attacks reflects a broader shift in tactics by hostile actors, requiring adaptive countermeasures and enhanced surveillance capabilities. The successful interception of all reported attempts points to improved preparedness and technological integration within law enforcement agencies.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen defensive capabilities against emerging threats. Continuous monitoring and rapid response protocols remain in place to address any future incidents.
