Senior government and law enforcement officials on Saturday underscored growing concerns over cross-border terrorism affecting Balochistan, stating that recent militant activities and infiltration attempts are directly linked to elements operating from across the Afghan border.
Addressing a joint press conference in Quetta, the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Balochistan, Hamza Shafqat, along with Deputy Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Aitzaz Goraya, and Aide to the Balochistan Home Minister, Babar Yousafzai, shared detailed insights into emerging security challenges and evolving tactics employed by terrorist networks.
Officials revealed that credible and verifiable evidence indicates that militants are entering Pakistan from Afghanistan, carrying out attacks in various parts of Balochistan, and subsequently retreating across the border. They emphasized that these cross-border movements pose a persistent threat to regional stability and require heightened vigilance and coordinated response mechanisms.
Highlighting a disturbing trend, Babar Yousafzai noted that extremist groups are increasingly exploiting women and children to execute their operations. He described the tactic as “deeply inhumane” and in stark contradiction to the cultural and moral values of Baloch society.
Referring to a recent case, officials disclosed that the husband of a female suicide bomber had facilitated her travel to Afghanistan, where she reportedly received training before being deployed for a terrorist act. The incident, they stressed, reflects the extent to which hostile elements are manipulating personal and familial relationships to further their agendas.
The officials collectively urged the public to remain alert and proactive in safeguarding their communities. They advised parents and guardians to maintain close awareness of their surroundings and social circles, and to exercise due diligence, particularly in matters such as marriage arrangements, to prevent exploitation by malicious actors.
Furthermore, the speakers cautioned against falling victim to propaganda and misinformation disseminated by extremist organizations. They called on citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities and individuals.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, the officials stated that all necessary measures are being taken to dismantle militant networks and counter their influence. “We remain resolute in our mission to protect our citizens and defeat those who seek to destabilize our society,” the officials emphasized.
The press conference concluded with a strong appeal for unity, vigilance, and collective responsibility in confronting the threats posed by terrorism and safeguarding the peace and integrity of the region.
