Five terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were eliminated after explosives they were allegedly preparing for an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated prematurely in Wara Mamund area of Bajaur district, according to security sources.
Sources said the incident occurred in the Nakhtar area, where the terrorists were allegedly engaged in preparing an IED when the explosive material accidentally detonated.
As a result of the premature blast, five terrorists were neutralized at the site. The explosion reportedly destroyed the material being prepared for use in a potential terrorist activity.
Following the incident, security personnel reached the area and initiated necessary security measures. Further details regarding the identities and affiliations of the eliminated terrorists are being ascertained.
The incident highlights the continued reliance of terrorist networks on improvised explosive devices as a key tactic for carrying out attacks against security forces, law enforcement personnel and civilians.
IEDs have remained among the most frequently used tools by terrorist organizations due to their ability to cause casualties while allowing attackers to operate through concealed methods. However, attempts to prepare such devices have also resulted in accidental explosions, exposing the risks associated with terrorist infrastructure and explosive-making activities.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies have continued intelligence-based operations across Bajaur and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to disrupt terrorist networks, dismantle their hideouts and prevent planned attacks.
The latest incident comes amid sustained counterterrorism efforts in the region, where security institutions have repeatedly emphasized that terrorists involved in planning attacks, manufacturing explosives and facilitating terrorism will continue to be targeted through intelligence-led operations.
