Claims surrounding a purportedly leaked document attributed to India’s external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), have sparked renewed debate over the circumstances of the recent incident in Pahalgam, with allegations suggesting the possibility of a premeditated “false flag” operation.
According to sources circulating the document, the material allegedly outlines instructions for orchestrating an incident in the Anantnag district, followed by a coordinated media and digital campaign. The claims assert that the plan included shaping a narrative around targeted violence and amplifying messaging through both traditional media and social media platforms.
The document further alleges that a network of more than 200 social media accounts was to be activated to intensify a specific geopolitical narrative within hours of the incident. It also suggests that international outreach efforts would follow, framing the situation within the context of counterterrorism cooperation.
Independent verification of the document has not yet been established, and officials from India have not publicly responded to the authenticity of the claims at the time of reporting.
Analysts note that such allegations, if substantiated, could have significant implications for regional stability and diplomatic relations in South Asia. However, experts also caution against drawing definitive conclusions without credible verification, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based assessment in highly sensitive geopolitical matters.
The government of Pakistan has previously raised concerns regarding the Pahalgam incident, and the emergence of these claims is being viewed by some commentators as reinforcing its position. Nevertheless, no independent international body has confirmed the assertions contained in the alleged leak.
Observers underline that misinformation and unverified intelligence claims can further inflame tensions in an already volatile region. Calls have been made for transparency, impartial investigation, and restraint from all parties to avoid escalation.
