AJK Police Foil Espionage Plot, Arrest Alleged RAW Operative and Expose Wider Network

Police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have arrested an alleged operative linked to India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in a timely operation that authorities say prevented potential threats to sensitive installations and civilian targets.

Addressing a press conference, Inspector General of Police AJK, Captain (Retd.) Liaquat Ali Malik, stated that the arrest was carried out by Rawalakot Police following actionable intelligence. The suspect, identified as Irfan, is accused of conducting reconnaissance of sensitive locations and transmitting videos and information to external handlers.

According to the police chief, the suspect was allegedly involved in surveillance activities targeting military installations as well as educational institutions, and was reportedly part of planning efforts aimed at facilitating potential attacks.

“The swift and effective response by law enforcement agencies has thwarted hostile intentions and safeguarded public safety,” Malik said, adding that the operation also led to the exposure of a broader network allegedly linked to hostile intelligence operations.

Investigators revealed that the accused maintained contact with handlers through social media platforms, regularly sharing sensitive information about key locations. Authorities believe such activities were part of a coordinated effort to undermine state security by systematically identifying and relaying critical infrastructure details.

The IGP further stated that the suspect was also allegedly involved in planning actions that could have endangered civilian lives. However, prompt intervention by police prevented any such incidents from materializing.

He emphasized that operations against individuals involved in espionage and anti-state activities will continue without discrimination. “The sanctity and security of Azad Kashmir will be protected at all costs,” Malik affirmed, reiterating the commitment of law enforcement and security agencies to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Officials also noted that this development follows recent intelligence-based operations in which additional individuals suspected of links with foreign intelligence agencies were taken into custody, indicating ongoing vigilance against such threats.
