A Taliban official serving with Afghanistan’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice was shot dead by unknown armed men in Khost province, according to sources.
The slain official was identified as Mullah Mohammad Wali Jan Sajid, an employee of the Taliban ministry responsible for enforcing the group’s interpretation of Islamic morality and social conduct.
Sources said the incident took place in Khost, where armed assailants opened fire on Sajid. He sustained critical injuries and was killed in the attack.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remained at large.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, while the motive behind the killing remains unclear.
The incident comes amid continued reports of security challenges and targeted attacks in different parts of Afghanistan, including incidents involving Taliban personnel.
