Security forces successfully foiled a potential terrorist attack by neutralizing two terrorists, including a fleeing suicide bomber, during a timely intelligence-based operation in the Hundi Khel area of Bannu district.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated the presence and movement of terrorists planning to carry out a major act of terrorism in the area. Acting swiftly, security forces cordoned off the suspected location and engaged the terrorists as they attempted to escape.
During the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists were eliminated, including a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest. Security personnel also recovered the suicide jacket, along with weapons, ammunition, explosives and other materials believed to have been intended for use in future terrorist activities.
Sources said the timely action by security forces averted a potentially devastating suicide attack that could have targeted either security personnel or civilians. The recovery of the explosive vest indicates that the terrorists were fully prepared to execute their plan before they were intercepted.
A search and clearance operation was conducted in the surrounding area to ensure that no accomplices had managed to escape and to eliminate any remaining threat. Security officials reiterated that intelligence-based operations against Fitna al-Khawarij and other terrorist elements would continue until the complete elimination of terrorism from the region.
The latest success underscores the continued vigilance of Pakistan’s security forces, whose proactive intelligence-led operations have repeatedly prevented major terrorist attacks and disrupted the operational capabilities of terrorist networks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
