A commander of the banned BLF, described by security sources as part of Fitna al-Hindustan, was killed after local residents thwarted ا kidnap-for-ransom attempt in Balochistan’s Awaran district.
According to sources, the BLF commander, identified as Akhtar Ali Sher, along with several armed accomplices, stormed the residence of a local civil contractor in an attempt to abduct him for ransom. The attackers reportedly believed the contractor could be used to extort a large payment.
The attempted abduction was met with fierce resistance from local residents, who confronted the armed terrorists despite being outgunned. During the exchange of fire, the BLF commander was killed, while several other terrorists sustained injuries before fleeing the scene, abandoning the body of their commander.
The targeted contractor was injured during the attack. His elder brother, however, lost his life after bravely confronting the attackers without weapons in an effort to protect his family and prevent the abduction.
Security sources said law enforcement personnel later reached the area, secured the scene and launched a search operation to trace the fleeing terrorists. Evidence was collected from the site, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining attackers and their facilitators.
According to security sources, the incident reflects an evolving pattern in which terrorist groups, after suffering repeated setbacks against Pakistan’s security forces, are increasingly resorting to criminal activities such as extortion, kidnapping for ransom and intimidation. These tactics, the sources said, are increasingly targeting innocent Baloch civilians and local businessmen in an effort to finance terrorist operations and spread fear across the province.
The attempted kidnapping has once again highlighted the growing resistance of local communities against terrorist groups operating in Balochistan, with residents demonstrating an unwillingness to succumb to intimidation despite the risks involved.
