NMF Claims Major Attack on Taliban–TTP Base in Afghanistan’s Nuristan

The National Mobilization Front (NMF) has claimed responsibility for an armed operation targeting a joint Afghan Taliban–Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) base in Nurgaram (Noorgram) district of Nuristan province during the night of July 12–13, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the group, the operation continued for approximately 45 minutes and resulted in casualties among personnel stationed at the targeted facility. The NMF claimed that five militants were killed, including three TTP members and two Afghan Taliban members, while four others sustained injuries and reportedly withdrew from the area along with additional Taliban fighters.

The group further claimed that after Taliban forces vacated the compound, its fighters entered the location, recovered weapons and equipment allegedly left behind, and set the facility on fire before leaving the area. The NMF claimed that none of its fighters were killed during the operation.

According to the statement, the weapons and equipment allegedly seized during the operation included two AK-pattern rifles, three M16 rifles, one Dragunov sniper rifle, two Beretta pistols, one Walther pistol, and 22 hand grenades.

The reported attack highlights the continuing security challenges in parts of Afghanistan, where armed groups continue to compete for influence and carry out operations against rival factions and security targets. Nuristan, due to its mountainous terrain and difficult geography, has historically remained a challenging area for security operations and governance.

The NMF’s claims have not been independently verified, and further details regarding the incident, including casualties and the circumstances surrounding the attack, remain subject to confirmation from independent sources.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the presence and movement of armed groups in Afghanistan and the broader implications for regional security. The activities of various militant and armed factions continue to impact stability, border security, and counter-terrorism efforts across the region.

Security analysts continue to monitor developments involving armed groups operating in Afghanistan, particularly in areas where multiple factions maintain competing interests and operational networks.
