Karachi Rangers Camp Attack: CTD Uncovers the Masterminds Behind the Deadly Assault

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has submitted its preliminary investigation report to the Anti-Terrorism Administrative Court regarding the terrorist attack on a Rangers transport company facility in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. The report identifies six alleged members of the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar as the suspected masterminds behind the attack.

According to the preliminary findings, the alleged network is said to have been led by Umar Qari, identified by investigators as a commander of the proscribed outfit Jamaat-ul-Ahrar. The report also names Mullah Umar Maulvi Ahrar, Abdul Wajid, and other suspected accomplices, who have been declared absconders as investigations continue.

According to the CTD report, the attack occurred on the night of June 27 at approximately 9:10 p.m., when a suicide attacker detonated explosives at the main entrance of the Rangers workshop and transport company facility.

The powerful explosion was followed by an armed assault, prompting an immediate response from security personnel stationed at the site. The attack claimed the lives of three Rangers personnel who were performing their duties at the entrance of the facility.

The fallen personnel have been identified as:

  • Havaldar Riaz
  • Sepoy Dawood Parvez
  • Sepoy Abdul Qadeer

Their sacrifice has been recognized as a testament to the courage and dedication of Pakistan’s security forces in defending the country against terrorism. The report states that Rangers personnel responded immediately to the attack, engaging the assailants in a firefight. During the exchange, two alleged terrorists were killed, while another suspect, identified as Usman alias Ali, was apprehended in an injured condition.

According to investigators, the arrested suspect disclosed the identities of several alleged accomplices involved in the attack, identifying the deceased attackers as Umar and Abdul Hadi, while stating that the suicide bomber was known as Janan. Authorities have emphasized that these statements form part of the ongoing investigation and will be subject to further verification.

The CTD has informed the Anti-Terrorism Court that investigations remain ongoing to identify additional facilitators, financiers, and logistical supporters believed to have assisted in planning and executing the attack. Law enforcement agencies are continuing intelligence-based operations aimed at apprehending the remaining suspects and dismantling the broader network allegedly linked to the incident.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s law enforcement and security agencies remain fully committed to bringing all those responsible for acts of terrorism to justice. Authorities emphasized that coordinated investigations, intelligence-led operations, and close inter-agency cooperation will continue to target terrorist networks and prevent future attacks against civilians and security installations.

The CTD stated that further details will be made available as the investigation progresses and additional evidence is collected.
