Lakki Marwat Cop Seeks Clerics’ Verdict on Terrorists Labeling Police as “Apostates”

In Lakki Marwat, a police officer has made an emotional appeal to local religious scholars, seeking a clear religious opinion amid growing threats and accusations by militants who allegedly label police and security personnel as “apostates” due to their service in state institutions.

The officer questioned the justification being used by militants to target law enforcement personnel, saying they are earning their livelihood through lawful and honest means. He expressed concern over the ongoing violence, stating that individuals are being killed solely on the basis of their professional duties.

In his appeal, the officer urged religious scholars to clarify whether serving in the police and cooperating with state institutions is religiously impermissible, adding that he would consider resigning from his job if it is proven otherwise by authoritative religious opinion.

He further stated that even if such groups impose their own interpretation of religious law, it cannot justify killings or labeling others as outside the fold of faith. The officer also called on scholars to clarify their position regarding those who carry out such attacks, including whether funeral prayers should be offered for them, amid what he described as increasing pressure and fear among law enforcement personnel in the region.
