Pakistan has reiterated its firm commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and diplomacy in the region, emphasizing that its role in facilitating communication between countries remains active and constructive in the context of ongoing Iran–United States tensions and possible diplomatic engagement.
Speaking during the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that Pakistan continues to pursue efforts aimed at regional stability while fully respecting the principles of sovereignty and equality of all states. He underscored that Pakistan’s consistent position is that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
The spokesperson highlighted that Pakistan firmly believes in negotiations and diplomacy between states as the primary tools for resolving disputes. He noted that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister has remained in close contact with foreign ministers of various countries in connection with evolving regional developments. He added that Pakistan is actively playing its part in efforts to promote peace in the region.
He further stated that the Chinese Foreign Minister has acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role, particularly its emphasis on sustainable ceasefire arrangements and the importance of continued diplomatic engagement.
Rejecting a report aired by CBS News regarding the alleged presence of Iranian aircraft in Pakistan, the spokesperson categorically dismissed the claim as inaccurate. He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to its mediatory role aimed at de-escalation and reducing regional tensions. He also emphasized that Pakistan has consistently urged Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used for acts of terrorism against other countries.
The spokesperson informed that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held telephone conversations with the leadership of Qatar and Azerbaijan last week, during which regional developments and ongoing peace efforts were discussed. The Prime Minister also extended best wishes to the President of Azerbaijan for the upcoming World Urban Forum.
He further stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for the Middle East, during which matters related to regional peace, stability, and Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives were discussed and appreciated.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan has maintained active engagement with multiple international partners to promote de-escalation and encourage dialogue, particularly in relation to efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States.
The spokesperson added that on May 8, the Deputy Prime Minister held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Singapore, during which the repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian maritime personnel and the regional situation were discussed. On May 11, discussions with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia also focused on regional developments and issues of mutual interest. Saudi Arabia acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role and expressed support for ongoing diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States.
He further noted that on May 12, a telephone conversation was held with the Foreign Minister of Austria, during which the evolving regional situation was reviewed. Austria also acknowledged Pakistan’s facilitation efforts regarding potential Iran–US negotiations.
The Foreign Office concluded that Pakistan will continue to remain closely engaged with all relevant partners to promote peace, maritime security, and strengthened diplomatic coordination across the region.
