A powerful explosion in Sarai Naurang Bazaar, located in Lakki Marwat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has resulted in multiple casualties, including both civilians and police personnel, according to police and hospital officials.
Authorities confirmed that the blast occurred near Sarai Naurang Police Station when an explosion took place inside or near a rickshaw in a busy commercial area. The incident triggered panic in the marketplace and caused significant loss of life and injuries.
Police officials stated that at least seven people were killed in the explosion. Their bodies were shifted to Sarai Naurang Hospital for medico-legal procedures. Hospital administration further confirmed that among the deceased were two traffic police personnel who were on duty in the area at the time of the blast.
More than 18 individuals were injured in the incident, including women and children. The injured were immediately transported to the hospital, where they are currently receiving emergency medical treatment. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
In response to the influx of casualties, hospital authorities declared an emergency at Sarai Naurang Hospital to ensure the availability of medical staff, resources, and urgent care facilities.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation into the nature and cause of the explosion. Bomb disposal units and security personnel are examining the site to collect evidence and determine the type of explosive device used.
Police officials have not yet confirmed whether the incident was a targeted attack, suicide bombing, or an improvised explosive device (IED). Investigations are ongoing.
The proximity of the blast to a police station has raised serious security concerns, and additional forces have been deployed in the region to maintain law and order.
The explosion in a densely populated market area has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The presence of civilians, including women and children, among the injured has intensified public concern over safety in commercial zones.
Local residents reported scenes of chaos immediately after the blast, with emergency responders, police, and volunteers rushing to assist the victims and secure the area.
Authorities have stated that further details will be shared once forensic examinations are completed and eyewitness accounts are verified. Security forces continue to conduct search and clearance operations in and around Sarai Naurang.
