Deadly Explosion in Sarai Naurang Bazaar, Lakki Marwat: Death Toll Reaches 9, 23 Injured; Motorcycle IED Suspected — DIG Bannu

A powerful explosion in Naurang Bazaar, Sarai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat district, has resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, including two traffic police personnel, while 23 others sustained injuries, according to senior police officials.

The explosion occurred in a busy commercial area, triggering panic among residents and shopkeepers. Emergency response teams, police units, and rescue services immediately reached the site following the incident. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bannu Region Sajad Khan confirmed that initial investigations indicate the explosive material was planted inside a motorcycle parked in the marketplace.

He stated that evidence is being collected from the scene, which has been completely cordoned off by law enforcement agencies. Bomb disposal squads and investigative teams are currently conducting a detailed forensic analysis to determine the exact nature of the blast.

According to the DIG, nine civilians and police personnel lost their lives in the explosion, including two traffic police officials who were on duty in the area. Twenty-three injured individuals, including civilians, have been shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that medical teams have been placed on high alert to deal with the influx of patients.

DIG Sajad Khan confirmed that a large contingent of police has been deployed in the area, and a search-and-strike operation is underway to clear the surroundings and ensure no further threat remains. He personally visited the incident site in Naurang Bazaar to oversee the situation and later visited District Headquarters Hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured.

Doctors have been directed to ensure the best possible medical care for the victims, the DIG stated.

Speaking on the incident, DIG Bannu Region Sajad Khan said that law enforcement agencies are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. “Terrorists and their facilitators will be brought to justice at all costs,” he said, adding that all available resources are being utilized to investigate and respond to the incident.

The incident has once again highlighted security challenges in densely populated market areas, where civilian movement remains high. Authorities have intensified security operations in the region and are continuing evidence collection to support the investigation.
