Security forces successfully conducted a major counterterrorism operation in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan, targeting a hideout associated with terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to as Khawarij.
The intelligence-based operation was launched following credible reports regarding the presence and movement of armed Khawarij operating from the area. Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, security forces carried out a precise and coordinated engagement against the terrorist hideout, resulting in the elimination of thirteen Khawarij during an intense exchange of fire.
According to preliminary operational assessments, several high-value terrorist commanders were among those killed in the operation. The deceased commanders were identified as Pathak and Zandan, both reportedly involved in orchestrating and facilitating terrorist activities in the region. Other Khawarij neutralized during the operation included Fateh, Rizwan, Irshad alias Yasir, Wali Rehman alias Zarqavi and Saif Ullah.
Security officials stated that the successful operation represents another significant blow to terrorist networks attempting to destabilize the region through violence and intimidation. The elimination of key Khawarij leadership is expected to disrupt operational planning, recruitment and logistical coordination of terrorist elements active in South Waziristan and adjoining areas.
The operation forms part of the broader ongoing counterterrorism campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, denying safe havens to extremist groups and restoring lasting peace and stability across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal districts.
Officials reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remain fully committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They emphasized that intelligence-led operations continue to be conducted with precision, professionalism and resolve to protect civilian populations and safeguard national security.
Security forces also appreciated the cooperation and support of local communities, noting that public assistance remains vital in identifying and countering terrorist activities. South Waziristan has witnessed a series of intelligence-based operations in recent months as part of intensified efforts to curb terrorist resurgence and strengthen the writ of the state in sensitive areas bordering Afghanistan.
Authorities reiterated that any attempt to undermine Pakistan’s peace and stability would be met with decisive action and that the state remains determined to ensure long-term security, stability and development for the people of the region.
