Three Children Killed, Two Injured in Motorcycle-Borne IED Blast in South Waziristan Lower

Three children were killed and two others injured in a tragic explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a motorcycle near Ghwai Khowah area close to Wana in South Waziristan Lower, local sources confirmed on Thursday.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred when a parked motorcycle detonated outside a residential house belonging to a local resident identified as Saddam Hussain, son of Shah Hussain. Eyewitness accounts and preliminary findings suggest that an unidentified individual had left the motorcycle at the location shortly before the powerful blast occurred.

The explosion resulted in the immediate death of three children, all reportedly belonging to the same family. Two other children sustained injuries of varying severity and were promptly shifted to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Hospital sources indicated that the injured are receiving necessary medical care, while their condition is being closely monitored.

Security and law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and initiated a thorough investigation into the incident. Bomb disposal units and relevant authorities are examining the site to determine the nature and mechanism of the explosive device used in the attack.

Officials stated that efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the incident, which has once again highlighted the persistent threat posed by improvised explosive devices in previously volatile regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s tribal districts.

Local administration representatives expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and assured that all possible assistance is being provided to the affected family. They reiterated that those involved in targeting civilians, especially children, will be brought to justice.

The incident has drawn condemnation from community members and local elders, who termed the attack a cowardly act aimed at destabilizing peace in the region. They called for enhanced security measures and stronger action against elements involved in such acts of terrorism.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating militant threats and ensuring the safety of civilians, particularly in areas that have witnessed a gradual return to normalcy in recent years.
