The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out extensive intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across multiple cities in Punjab, resulting in the arrest of 16 suspected terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and the disruption of multiple planned attacks, according to an official spokesperson.
The CTD spokesperson stated that a total of 113 intelligence-based operations were conducted across the province, targeting suspected terrorist networks in cities including Khushab, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Jhang, Bhakkar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, and Gujranwala.
During these coordinated operations, a highly dangerous suicide bomber identified as Ghazni Marjan was arrested from Jhang. Authorities recovered a suicide vest and explosive materials from his possession. In a separate operation in Sargodha, another suspect, Male Khan, allegedly involved in attacks on security forces, was also apprehended.
According to CTD officials, the arrested individuals were actively involved in planning attacks on police checkpoints and other sensitive installations. Timely intelligence-led action successfully prevented what authorities described as imminent terror-related incidents.
A significant quantity of explosive materials and prohibited items was recovered during the operations, including suicide jackets, 14 detonators, 25 feet of safety fuse wire, prohibited organizational stickers, banned literature, and cash.
The identities of the arrested suspects have been confirmed as Ghazi Marjan, Moin Khan, Aseel Din, Nasir Shah, Naseeb Khan, Abrar, Yousaf, Male Khan, and Asim, among others.
In addition to these arrests, the CTD reported that during the ongoing security drive, 2,830 combing operations were conducted across Punjab over the past week. These efforts led to the interrogation of 95,755 individuals and the detention of 190 further suspects for questioning.
Officials emphasized that these operations reflect a sustained and proactive counterterrorism strategy aimed at dismantling extremist networks and preventing terrorist activity before it can materialize.
The CTD reaffirmed that operations against terrorism will continue without interruption across the province, with enhanced surveillance, intelligence coordination, and field operations to ensure public safety and national security.
