Taliban Threats Against Pakistan Reveal Afghan Regime’s Dangerous Role in Terrorism

The acting Defense Minister of Afghanistan, Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, has issued alarming threats against Pakistan, reflecting the Afghan regime’s continued support for militant groups that target Pakistani territory and civilians. In an interview with Tolo News, Mujahid claimed that any attack on Kabul would be met with retaliation in Islamabad, demonstrating a reckless posture that threatens regional peace and stability.

Mujahid’s statements underscore the Afghan Taliban’s ongoing complicity in cross-border terrorism. He rejected Pakistan’s legitimate demand to designate the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as a terrorist organization, dismissing it as “imaginary and unrealistic.” This refusal highlights Afghanistan’s role as a safe haven and operational base for terrorist networks, which have repeatedly carried out attacks against Pakistan’s security forces and civilians along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Despite his claims that Afghanistan does not seek war, Mujahid openly vowed to continue fighting indefinitely, declaring: “If they extend the war for ten years, we are ready to fight for ten years as well. We have no fear.” Such statements reveal a deliberate willingness to prolong conflict, destabilize the region, and ignore international norms.

Mujahid also cited disputes over the Durand Line to justify interference in Pakistan’s sovereign territory, further exposing the Afghan Taliban’s aggressive and irresponsible stance. Afghan forces have reportedly been using these territorial claims to shield TTP and other extremist elements, allowing them to launch repeated attacks across the border with impunity.

Pakistan, in contrast, continues to act strictly in self-defense, conducting targeted operations to neutralize cross-border threats and protect its citizens. The country remains committed to peace and stability in the region, but Afghanistan’s harboring of terrorists, promotion of extremist narratives, and direct threats against Pakistan make it a persistent source of instability.

Security officials emphasized that Pakistan will remain vigilant and prepared to defend its sovereignty and borders against any hostile action emanating from Afghan soil. Pakistan also urges the Afghan government and Taliban authorities to take concrete steps to end the use of their territory for terrorism, respect international borders, and work constructively toward regional stability rather than continuing a campaign of threats and proxy violence.

The Afghan Taliban’s actions and statements reinforce a pattern of aggression and disregard for peace, making it clear that the security and stability of South Asia are under constant threat from extremist elements operating from Afghan territory. Pakistan remains resolute in defending its people and borders, while holding Afghanistan accountable for fostering a climate of cross-border militancy.
