In a brazen and cowardly act of terrorism, militants belonging to the extremist faction commonly referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to assassinate a prominent religious scholar and senior political figure in Wana, South Waziristan, once again exposing their deep-seated hostility toward peace, learning, and the very fabric of society.
On January 9, 2025, an explosion was carried out near a religious seminary administered by Maulana Sultan, a respected Islamic scholar, senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), and the District President of Wifaq-ul-Madaris, South Waziristan (Lower). The blast occurred in close proximity to the madrassa where Maulana Sultan serves as Mohtamim (Administrator) and Imam, clearly indicating that he was the intended target of this heinous attack.
According to local sources, Maulana Sultan sustained serious injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, and prayers are being offered nationwide for his swift recovery.
This attack is not an isolated incident. It is part of a long-standing, calculated strategy employed by extremist elements to intimidate and eliminate those who promote religious harmony, public awareness, peace, and support for the rule of law. By targeting scholars, mosques, madrasas, and community leaders, these groups seek to dismantle the moral, educational, and social foundations of society.
Maulana Sultan is widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to religious education, community welfare, and peaceful coexistence. An attack on him is not merely an assault on an individual it is an attack on the collective conscience of the region and a direct strike against institutions that nurture learning, moderation, and social stability.
Despite masquerading under the banner of religion, these extremists stand in complete contradiction to the true teachings of Islam, which uphold the sanctity of human life, peace, and compassion. Their actions reveal them to be enemies not only of the state, but of Islam, the Muslim Ummah, and the general public. They thrive on fear, chaos, and division, and have no connection whatsoever to religious or public interest.
The nation is urged to categorically reject the false narratives and deceptive propaganda propagated by such disruptive elements, to stand united with the state and security forces, and to play an active role in promoting peace, stability, and national unity.
The resolve remains firm: security operations against Fitna al-Khawarij will continue relentlessly until the complete elimination of this menace, ensuring that peace, rule of law, and harmony prevail across the country.
