Tajikistan Terms Afghan-Based Militants a Regional Threat, Calls for Immediate Action

Tajikistan has declared that militant groups operating from Afghan soil pose a direct threat to regional security, urging that action against these elements has become unavoidable. The country’s Foreign Ministry said the recent drone attack involved improvised grenades and automatic weapons, reflecting the growing sophistication of militant activity along the border.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Tajikistan is making continuous efforts to maintain peace and stability in the frontier regions, but criminal groups based inside Afghanistan are destabilising the wider region. The spokesperson called on Afghan authorities to ensure effective border security.

Warning Issued to Chinese Nationals

The Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan has advised its citizens to avoid working or investing in areas along the Tajikistan Afghanistan border, urging those currently present there to leave as soon as possible due to heightened security risks.

Afghanistan Tajikistan Relations

Relations between Tajikistan and Afghanistan have long remained tense, particularly since the Taliban seized control of Kabul in 2021, after which Tajikistan cut off all diplomatic ties. Recent steps, including the reopening of border markets last year and a Tajik delegation’s visit to Kabul earlier this month, had indicated slight improvement, although the latest developments have renewed security concerns.
