India-Backed Afghan Terror Links Raise Fears for Regional and Global Security

Regional security concerns have intensified as fresh incidents of violence across multiple countries are increasingly linked to terrorist networks operating from Afghan soil with alleged Indian backing. Recent terror attacks in Pakistan, a mass shooting in the United States, and a drone strike targeting Chinese workers in Tajikistan are being viewed as part of the same cross-border escalation.

Pakistan has repeatedly warned that Afghanistan has become a sanctuary for militants involved in attacks across the region. Several European countries, including members of the EU and Denmark, have also labelled the terrorist organisations based in Afghanistan as a rising threat to both regional and global peace.

According to a United Nations Security Council report, the Afghan Taliban regime’s provision of safe havens to terrorist groups remains a serious danger to regional stability, with multiple networks continuing to operate freely.

The geopolitical landscape grew more complicated in October 2025, when Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited India and signed several agreements. Notably, the visit coincided with an episode of unprovoked Afghan aggression against Pakistan, further heightening tensions.

A report by the South China Morning Post states that India and Afghanistan have agreed to deploy commercial representatives to each other’s embassies, a development analysts believe will deepen their cooperation. Observers say the growing ties between New Delhi and Kabul are set to further complicate South Asia’s already volatile political environment.
