Pakistan, Türkiye Agree to Form Joint Working Group to Boost Counter-Terror Cooperation

Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to establish a joint working group aimed at enhancing coordination across multiple security and administrative sectors, particularly in counter-terrorism.
During a visit to Islamabad, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya met with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for one-on-one and delegation-level talks at the Interior Ministry. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in counter-terrorism, anti-narcotics, human trafficking, border security, cybercrime, coast guard, and police training.

It was decided that the newly formed joint working group will meet four times a year to ensure sustained engagement between the two ministries. Both countries also agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of immigration control, anti-narcotics, and combating human trafficking.

Ali Yerlikaya emphasized that Türkiye considers Pakistan’s security inseparable from its own, and appreciated Islamabad’s active role in fighting terrorism and narcotics.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said human trafficking and illegal immigration are global issues that require joint efforts. He announced Pakistan’s full support for Türkiye in the upcoming Interpol elections and praised the Anti-Narcotics Force for its commendable work despite limited resources, noting that no drug-smuggling case from Pakistan to Türkiye has been reported in the past five years.

The two ministers also agreed to enhance cooperation in police training and share expertise across various operational and administrative domains.

Yerlikaya reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening its brotherly ties with Pakistan, expressing confidence that the establishment of the joint working group will further strengthen bilateral cooperation. He also thanked his Pakistani counterpart for the warm hospitality extended during his visit.
