Four police personnel were injured on Tuesday in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeting a police patrol van in the Garhi Qamardin area on Kohat Road, Peshawar.
According to SSP Operations Peshawar, Masood Bangash, the explosion occurred near a bridge where the IED had been planted and detonated remotely as the police vehicle passed by during a routine patrol.
The injured personnel have been identified as ASI Shah Faisal, Constables Sajjad and Noorullah, and Driver Zia. All four were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
Security forces swiftly responded to the scene, cordoning off the area and launching a search operation in the surrounding localities. A heavy police contingent was deployed to secure the blast site and collect forensic evidence.
Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of the banned terrorist group Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), which has recently been under pressure in tribal districts such as Bajaur, where several of its terror plots were foiled in recent days.
Officials say the attack appears to be a retaliatory strike aimed at security personnel, as law enforcement operations intensify across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and former FATA regions.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet. Investigations are ongoing.
